Dyson DC32 Animal Vacuum Cleaner Review
The Dyson DC32 Animal Vacuum Cleaner is designed for larger households with pets, (it has a bigger dust capacity than the DC22 and DC26). Cylinder cleaners are traditionally less suited to removing cat and dog hair than upright cleaners, but Dyson have included lots of clever design features to ensure the DC32 gives an optimum cleaning performance, however hairy your household!
Product features:
These are the technical bits that might interest a potential buyer:
Turbine head - This has been carefully designed to be efficient at removing pet hair (as well as other dirt). It has an air driven brush bar with stiff bristles that will help dislodge any deep rooted grime from your carpet pile before the wand sucks it up. To protect wood floors and delicate rugs, there is an option to turn off the brush bar.
Mini turbine head - As the name suggests, this is similar to the turbine head but smaller. The size makes it ideal for hovering your stairs, upholstery and car interior.
Hard floor tool - This has been engineered for optimum cleaning on wood, laminate, lino and tiled surfaces. The long bristles protect wood flooring from scratches and the wide debris channel sucks up larger dirt and rubbish, rather than just pushing it around as you vacuum.
Adjustable lightweight wand - Extends to a length to suit you, so you can access those hard to reach and high up areas. It has a suction-release trigger to avoid those awkward times when your curtains or rugs attach themselves to the cleaner head.
Transparent bin - Dyson manufacture all their vacuum cleaners with a clear plastic bin. This allows you to see how much dirt, dust and pet hair has been sucked up - which can be strangely satisfying - and makes it easy to know when your vacuum cleaner needs to be emptied. Emptying the bin is simple and requires little more than to press the release button, empty the dust into your rubbish bin and click the compartment back into place.
Two litre capacity - A generous two litre capacity makes this a good choice for larger households, or people who don't want to have to empty their vacuum cleaner too regularly.
Bagless - Bagless cleaners may cost more initially than their bagged counterparts, but are a good long term investment. If you hoover a lot then you can end up spending over a hundred pounds or more (easily) over the life of your vacuum cleaner on replacement dust bags.
HEPA filter - The High-Efficiency Particle Air filter helps reduce the number of allergens in your home. It can trap the tiniest of particles (0.1 microns) and stop them from being expelled back out by the vacuum cleaner. Tests have shown that the air expelled by the DC32 contains up to 150 times less allergens, such as dust mite faeces, mould spores and pollen.
Root cyclone technology - As the dust compartment or bag on a cylinder vacuum cleaner fills up, the suction tends to become weaker. Dyson's patented root cyclone technology counteracts this problem. It ensures consistently powerful suction and separation performance, which leads us onto the next point...
Allergy foundation approval - Because the DC32 is so reliable in removing allergens it has been granted approval by 12 allergy foundations worldwide, including the British Allergy Foundation and Allergie Suisse.
Product weight - 8.49 kg
Cord length - 6.5 metres
What is great about the DC32 Animal?
The most important thing about a vacuum cleaner is that it cleans floors well. The Dyson DC32 Animal Vacuum Cleaner certainly ticks this box. Even if you were house proud before, you are likely to find this vacuum cleaner sucks up a phenomenal amount of dirt and hair the first time you use it. One customer commented "my carpets look like they've been professionally cleaned" after their Dyson Animal cylinder vacuum cleaner's first use.
If you've got pets, than an irritation you've probably had to contend with in the past is removing clogged hair from the attachments. Dyson have given this problem careful consideration and have designed the turbo and mini turbine brush heads so that they can be taken apart, in order to remove the hair more easily. Big thumbs up for this feature.
One clever design feature which is (currently) unique to the DC32 is that the chassis is shaped to sit comfortably on the stairs while you clean. This is a feature that will hopefully be applied to future models, as many people find hoovering the stairs a bit of a challenge.
What isn't so good?
At 8.49 kg it is quite heavy. Opinion is divided on whether this makes it harder to use. For every person who finds it cumbersome another person raves about how easy and light it is to hoover with - it probably depends on what you've previously been used to. But the weight is not enough to stop people awarding this product top marks, and the clever design makes it easy to manoeuvre in spite of how heavy it is.
Because it's a full sized cleaner it takes up a fair bit of space. This is something you will need to give careful consideration if you have limited storage room.
