Dyson DC25 All Floors Review

Dyson first brought their pioneering new type of vacuum cleaner to the UK in 1993 and are now considered the premier vacuum cleaner manufacturer. The Dyson DC25 All Floors model is one of their current bestsellers, thanks to its versatility. It is cleverly designed to give excellent cleaning results on any type of surface, from hardwood floors to delicate rugs. Let's take a closer look at why this particular suits most people's needs.

First things first - what exactly are you getting when you part with your money?

The technical bit (for none techie people)

Dyson has a reputation for innovative technology. So what is so clever about this vacuum cleaner?

Ball technology - Most of the upright Dyson models now utilise ball technology. This simple but effective feature allows ease of steering in comparison to traditional style vacuum cleaners, particularly when moving around furniture or into corners.

To help improve manoeuvrability even further, Dyson have also moved the motor into the ball. This gives the vacuum cleaner a low point of gravity, making it easier to move with a simple turn of the wrist.

Dyson are committed to providing products which are robust and have good longevity - after all, who hasn't moaned that things aren't built to last these days? To help make this product more durable to ball is constructed from glass-reinforced polypropene. For those of us who aren't familiar with manufacturing processes, that is the same material that your car dashboard is made from.

Clear dust compartment - All Dyson cleaners are transparent. This is so you will always know when your vacuum cleaner needs to be emptied. If you've never had a Dyson before it is also quite fun to see exactly how much more dirt and pet hair it picks up than your old vacuum cleaner, (or was that just me?).

Motorised brush bar - The motorised brush bar is the reason that homes with carpets are often better off with an upright model than a cylinder version which relies only on suction to remove dirt. The Dyson DC25 vacuum cleaner has a motorised brush with stiff bristles that revolve an amazing 90 times per second. Very helpful for dislodging stubborn dirt and pet hairs!

Washable HEPA filter - HEPA stands for High-Efficiency Particle Air filter. In layman's terms, the filter will stop tiny and undesirable particles such as pollen, mould spores and dust mite faeces from being expelled back into the air you breathe.

The manufacturer recommends washing it every three months to keep it clean and hygienic. A rinse in cold water will do the job.

What's so good about the Dyson DC25 All Floors?

Customers agree the Dyson DC25 Multi Floor is an amazing improvement on earlier versions, with even more superior cleaning results and better manoeuvrability (thanks in part to being quite lightweight at 7.2kg). The novel addition of the extending wand is also a popular new feature, as it combats one of the main disadvantages of an upright model. Operation is described as "quiet", despite its powerful suction.

If you or anyone in your household has allergies, a Dyson is a good investment. As we explained in the technical bit, a HEPA filter will help reduce the amount of allergens in the air. This is part of the reason why the DC25 is accredited by no less than 12 different allergy associations (that's globally), including the British Allergy Foundation and Allergie Suisse. Dyson are particularly proud of the latter as Allergie Suisse have notoriously high standards, and wont grant approval to vacuum cleaners which do not have consistent suction and separation performance. Your Dyson DC25 should perform just as well with a nearly full bin as it will when it is empty due to its patented root cyclone technology - most vacuum cleaners lose suction as the dust bag becomes full.

Customers often describe their Dyson as "good value for money", but they are not the cheapest brand and you may worry about the cost if you are on a budget. However, over the course of 5 or more years you are probably financially better off than if you had purchased a cheaper and more inferior model. Dyson vacuum cleaners are bagless which means you do not have the costly outlay of new vacuum bags. Or the problem of having to purchase a new model when the manufacturer stop producing spares for your trusty old vacuum cleaner, (as this reviewer found with her old Miele Cat and Dog!).

Are there any problems with it?

Criticism is thin on the ground for the DC25 version. A minority of customers have complained that they have to empty the dust compartment more frequently than they did with an older model of Dyson. However, this is simply due to the fact that Dyson have improved the cleaning power so much that it is far more efficient at removing dust from floors and surfaces and thus filling up faster. It is straightforward to empty and so not much of a chore to be making slightly more trips to the bin.
